Michael Pumo

Obsessively thorough web development, with HTML5, CSS3, jQuery and WordPress.

Skills & expertise

I've been developing my skill–set to focus on what’s most suited to getting the job done quickly and effectively.

HTML5 web development

Front-end development

Whether you need a new website, updates to an existing application or a bespoke email marketing shot; if it involves the web, I can certainly help.

I write code that conforms to the W3C's web standards and semantic best–practices. I use technologies like HTML5, CSS3 (SCSS) and jQuery, to transform static artwork, into interactive and fully functional interfaces; exactly the way they were intended to be.

WordPress web development

WordPress development

I can help you leverage one of the world's most popular and powerful content management systems; tailoring it specifically to your needs.

WordPress has become the simplest and quickest way for me to develop new, fully content managed websites. Sell your products online or set up a blog, either way, you'll have the ability to manage your content just the way you want to.

Responsive web development

Responsive & adaptive design

The web is no longer just in the hands of the desktop computer. People access the web through their smartphones and tablets more than ever before.

Website traffic can originate from multiple devices, so websites need to be built onto a responsive grid system. I have experience with front–end frameworks such as Foundation, Bootstrap and Bourbon Neat. Layouts are now quicker, smarter and standardised.

Development Process

The web development process can be broken down into a timescale consisting of three general areas.

Meetings, specifications and research.

Coding your web application.

Testing and deploying your website.

Working with Michael has been a total pleasure; he is quick to get on to the tasks at hand and always showed a positive attitude towards new and challenging problems. We'll definitely be working with him for the foreseeable future

Professional Timeline

I have over 7+ years of professional industry and agency experience, working with a range of clients from start ups to larger corporations.

  • Web Developer

Contracting for agencies around London, including SOMO, Spark44, Potter & Web and Parallel.

  • Head of Digital

This short term contract for Parallel, required me to manage legacy projects, as well as build a range of new digital offerings; from holding pages, to responsive content managed websites and HTML5 emailers.

  • Head of Digital

I joined Branch as their first in house web developer. I worked closely with the design team to explore new avenues into the web and exploit this growing arm of the business.

  • Web Developer

After a few short-term contracts, I decided to explore the world of freelance. I had a mixture of agency work and a set of clients sourced by myself.

  • Web Designer & Developer

Structure were mainly a print-based design studio prior to my arrival. Over this short term contract (as their first in house developer) I helped push and transition their digital services to be more responsive and robust. Development time was vastly improved over what could be delivered via outsourcing to overseas developers.

  • Web Developer / SEO Consultant

    Blue Claw

A short term contract role at Blue Claw. I was required to enact and develop SEO strategies on behalf of their clients, via on-site HTML5 and CSS3 changes; improving search engine visibility in addition to PPC and link building.

  • Junior Web Designer

    Chapter Eight

I started my web career at Chapter Eight; learning the craft of web design / UX, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. As well as exploring the technical challenges of the front-end, we also designed the websites we built and lead the project management too; dealing with clients directly both over the phone and in regular project meetings.

  • Student

    University of Leeds

I graduated with upper second class honors (BA) in Communications & New Media. The course was multidisciplinary in nature; combining both academic and hands-on study of the digital and print industries.
